October 1, 2026
On Saturday, October 10, La Vista gets a full day outdoors. It starts with pancakes at the Central Park Clubhouse and ends with a country show on the lawn at The Astro Amphitheater. Ole 60 plays that night at 7:00 p.m., with The Jack Wharff Band and Phil Kane opening. It is the last outdoor date on the Astro's current schedule.
Past years might have made that show feel like the district's last weekend. This year the new businesses point the other way. Every business that opened or started construction at La Vista City Centre in 2026 operates under a roof, and most of them do their business during the day. These are a coworking office, salon suites, a movement studio and an escape room. The development's September update says the goal is a tenant mix that gives people "more reasons to visit, gather and experience City Centre throughout the day." So when the lawn closes after October 10, the rest of the district keeps running on its own schedule.
Three events share the date. Two are free, and all three are within walking distance of each other.
The bootcamp and the breakfast overlap by half an hour, so you can finish the workout at 9:00 and still have more than an hour for pancakes. The night before, Friday, October 9, Jim Henson's Labyrinth: In Concert plays inside The Astro Theater at 8:00 p.m. That makes it a two-day weekend at City Centre, with the indoor theater already running before the lawn's last show.
The indoor theater at 8302 City Centre Drive has shows booked through the second week of December. Here is what the venue's event pages list from mid-October on.
Date | Show | Start time |
|---|---|---|
Sat, Oct 17 | Undertale: The Determination Symphony World Tour | 8:00 p.m. |
Sat, Oct 31 | Daughtry, with Ryan Perdz | 8:00 p.m. |
Sat, Nov 7 | Everclear, with American Hi-Fi | 7:00 p.m. |
Sat, Nov 14 | Postmodern Jukebox | 8:00 p.m. |
Sun, Nov 15 | Cheap Trick, with The Band Feel | 7:00 p.m. |
Tue, Nov 17 | The Living Tombstone | 8:00 p.m. |
Thu, Dec 3 | Dusty Slay | 7:00 p.m. |
Fri, Dec 4 | #IMOMSOHARD | 7:30 p.m. |
Sat, Dec 5 | Blue October, with Jess Woodland | 8:00 p.m. |
Wed, Dec 9 | The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show | 7:00 p.m. |
Mid-November is the busiest stretch, with three shows in four nights from November 14 to 17. Early December also has three shows in a row, Thursday through Saturday. On those nights, parking and restaurant tables around Main Street will fill with concertgoers. The Blue October date was added to the Astro's site on September 23, so the list is still growing. Check the Astro's event listings before you plan around a quiet night.
Placemaker Properties, the City Centre developer, reported on September 14 that 16 businesses are open in the district and two more are under construction, which will bring the total to 18. The four newest businesses show how City Centre's tenant mix is changing.
None of the four depends on the weather, and three of them do most of their business when concerts aren't happening: morning classes, weekday office time and appointments. Exit 4 is the exception, and it fills the same group-outing role in winter that the amphitheater lawn fills in summer. Grow Omaha reported on September 18 that interior build-out had started. The company was founded in New Jersey in 2016 and has 16 locations in nine states, and the closest existing ones are in Texas and Ohio. For La Vista, that means an escape room brand the metro hasn't had before.
ALTAR's timeline also works in residents' favor. Classes are already running in the temporary space, so the studio doesn't have to wait until 2027 to open. Founder Audri Saylors described the move to the permanent studio as "such a significant next chapter for ALTAR."
The new tenants join a group of established businesses that already operate year-round. That group includes Heights Draft Room, Pen & Dagger Bookstore, Let It Fly, Chili's, Starbucks, Waxing the City, L'Elle Nail Spa, ALLO Fiber and First National Bank of Omaha. Let It Fly took over the former space of The City Pub, which closed at 7861 Main Street on July 31, 2025. Mayor Douglas Kindig called City Centre La Vista's "first-ever downtown core" in the same September update. A downtown needs this kind of daytime business to stay busy in January.
The one part of this fall that isn't on schedule is the route to the district. The $12 million 84th Street project will connect Central Park West to the east side of 84th Street with a bridge and trails. When it's finished, people walking from the Central Park West side will be able to reach City Centre without crossing traffic. The published forecasts have moved later with each report.
When it was reported | Source | Forecast |
|---|---|---|
October–November 2025 | KETV and the City of La Vista | First phase of bridge work through summer 2026 |
March 20, 2026 | KMTV | Closures until early 2027 |
July 6, 2026 | WOWT, quoting city officials | Whole project done "by fall of next year," meaning fall 2027 |
According to the WOWT report, heavy rain damaged the roadbed in early July and forced the city to close southbound 84th Street between Harrison and City Centre Drive. Public Works Director Joe Soucie described the plan for the next phase:
"Once that is finished up, we'll open the southbound and we'll shut down and remove a section of the northbound lane and start the bridge on that section."
Each direction was expected to take 45 to 60 days. By that plan, the northbound phase would be under way around now. No report since July confirms the current lane setup, though, so check before you drive to a show. The same report said southbound traffic on Parkview Drive is blocked, which sends more cars through nearby streets. One resident told WOWT she tries to come in on 72nd instead. On a sold-out night like Cheap Trick on November 15, you can expect crowded side streets.
Soucie also said a new aquatic center will be built at Central Park West. The bridge is what will tie that side of the park to City Centre, and the current estimate puts it at least a year away.
Falloween, the city's free Back the Boo event, is Friday, October 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. It has a new location this year at the La Vista Police Department, 7701 S. 96th St., hosted by La Vista Police and city staff. Nothing about it happens at City Centre or Central Park this year.
The city's November and December calendars don't list a 2026 tree lighting yet. Last year's Tree Lighting Celebration was December 7, 2025, at Santa's Workshop in Central Park. Until the city posts this year's date, the Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show on December 9 is the only confirmed holiday event on the district's calendar.
Construction detours like these come up for anyone planning a move, a sale or a listing photo shoot near 84th Street. If you'd like help with timing or anything else about living near City Centre while the bridge is going in, Contact a Good Life Group agent at BHG | The Good Life Group.
